TechKnow Expo 2011

TechExpo 2011 - Highlights

Here are a few highlights of the event.

Our ‘Cinco de Mayo’ evening reception Wednesday, May 4, had over 100 attendees who met with exhibitors while listening to the sounds of Latin Fusion band Cuarteto del Sur, enjoying hors d’oeuvres catered by Uptown Café and an open bar, and viewing Hunter Jonakin’s 3D New Media exhibit.

Thursday, May 5, started off bright and early with a buffet continental breakfast for 240 attendees, welcomes from TalTech Alliance Chair James Tillman, myself as President of ASTD-Tallahassee, and County Commissioner John Dailey, followed by keynote speaker Tim Center, Director of Sustainable Florida and Vice President of Sustainability Initiatives at the Collins Center for Public Policy.

Attendees then had their choice of four different learning tracks (Learning and Performance, Business, Executive and IT), and before lunch attended two different sessions. Lt. Governor Jennifer Carroll spoke to us during our buffet lunch followed by TalTech’s 10 year anniversary celebration comments. The afternoon’s two sessions went by quickly, and at the end of the day, fantastic door prizes were handed out during our closing reception.

Thank You’s

This event could not have been possible without the efforts of many of our ASTD-Tallahassee members. A special thank you is in order for the following folks:

  • Leesa Gibson of Clear Solutions, who served as committee chair for ASTD-Tallahassee’s side of things
  • Barbara Ann Cox of Meeting Makers, Inc., who contributed her amazing meeting planning skills to add those special touches to the event.
  • Melissa C. Mackal, Ph.D., of eLearning Advancements LLC, who did a dynamite job of planning our cracker barrel session.
  • Jonathan Adams, Ph.D., of Pilot Media and the Distance Institute, and Associate Professor in FSU’s College of Communications, who worked with our three panelists from the FSU Instructional Systems program – Dr. Tristan Johnson, Dr. Vanessa Dennen, and Dr. Feng Feng Ke – to help them prepare for their presentations.
  • Dr. John Rushing and his wife Sherrie, who contributed scholarships so that four ASTD-Tallahassee members could attend who would otherwise been unable. Congratulations to those four individuals who received these scholarships based on commitment to ASTD-Tallahassee and the learning and development profession: Dr. Melissa Mackal, Maurine Kwende, Dr. Tom Taylor and Kyvonne Blue.
  • Rhonda Register, VP Member of ASTD-Tallahassee, who put together a great package of membership materials for our ASTD-Tallahassee recruiting table and made sure the tables were manned during the event.
  • April Edmonds, whose insights and ideas were key recommendations leading to several choices we made that helped make our program a success!
